THERMOS® VACUUM INSULATION TECHNOLOGY FEATURED IN UNDER ARMOUR® HYDRATION BOTTLES IMPROVES ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE
Breakthrough Study Shows Cold Hydration Increases Performance in Fitness Training

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (July 5, 2011)
Thermos®, the leader of the insulated beverageware category for more than 100 years, has partnered with Under Armour® (NYSE:UA), a leader in sports performance apparel, footwear and accessories, to provide athletes with the best line of performance hydration bottles possible. This new line, which features Thermos vacuum insulation technology, provides the clinically proven power of cold hydration to improve athletic performance.

A recent clinical study commissioned by Thermos found that it’s not only how much or what you drink while working out, but also the temperature of the fluids consumed, that drives performance. Preliminary research indicates that by keeping the body’s core temperature down through the consumption of cold water (40?) and relieving heat-related stress on the body, cold hydration has the potential to increase strength and power output and improve training results.

“During our cold hydration trial, we saw that 70% of study participants had an improvement in their broad jump performance versus their results when drinking room temperature water (72-74° F) during a training session,” said Stacy Sims, Ph.D., Exercise Physiologist and Sport Nutritionist at Stanford University, who consulted on the pilot study. “Additionally, the longer you work out, the more important cold hydration is to your training. After 30 minutes, participants showed a clinically relevant difference in core temperature when drinking cold water, versus training with room temperature water.”

In the hydration bottle category, only Thermos Brand insulated products featuring unique Thermos vacuum insulation technology keep beverages cold for over 12 hours. This technology is featured in the new Under Armour collection and is designed to improve an athlete’s performance at every level.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Under Armour on our new hydration bottle line,” said Rick Dias, President and Chief Operating Officer at Thermos. “Given the new findings correlating cold hydration and improved athletic performance, our vacuum insulated bottles are a simple way for athletes at all levels to step up their training.”

The Under Armour hydration bottle collection includes interchangeable lids that can be used on most bottle bodies and include innovative and ergonomic features to make proper hydration an easy task. The leak-proof hydration bottles are made from BPA-free Eastman Tritan™ copolyester and feature a handy flip-up carrying loop. The complete Under Armour collection includes 20 bottles, featuring insulated stainless steel bottles, Tritan plastic bottles and squeezable bottles, all of which come in a variety of colors and graphics and are available at www.underarmour.com.

BPA Free Why it matters

Bisphenol A

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a controversial chemical that can be found in the lining of food cans, certain water bottles and more. Some researchers have linked the hormone-mimicking chemical to a host of issues including behavioral and developmental effects in kids. Thermos plays it safe, and has made a commitment to only manufacture products that are BPA-free.
